The Wizard of Oz

August 25 1939, the Wizard of Oz debuted in theaters.  I’ve seen some history, but I didn’t see that.  I saw it on TV.  We had a black and white TV, and this movie really misses something if you watch it in black and white.  So, my parents made an arrangement with the neighbors(who were also our friends) that we started the movie at home, watching the Kansas part of the movie.  At the end of the tornado sequence, there was a commercial break(of course) so the family traipsed next door and settled in with the Gillespies.  We didn’t know why.  When it came back on, we got the same “Wow” that Dorothy did when she opened the door of Auntie Em’s house.  It was so cool!
