The Stock Market

On this day in 1929, the Stock Market crashed and ushered in the Great Depression.  Of course, that’s only the surface of the story, but today was seen as the beginning of that difficult chapter of our nation’s history.

History is still being made every day, of course.  Today the stock market was closed due to the arrival hurricane Sandy.  Our prayers go out to everyone who has been affected so far and to those in the path of the storm.

Treachery on September 21, 1780 (Guest post by GDD)

Benedict Arnold became a traitor to the Continental Army on September 21, 1780. After being given command of the American fort, West Point, he met with Major John Andre of the British Army to discuss the handing over of the fort and its men.  In exchange, Arnold asked for wealth and a good position in the Red Coat army.  Before the traitorous plot could ensue, George Washington arrived at the fort and became aware of the conspiracy. Arnold managed to escape and later moved to England, where he died in 1801.
